Saturday, September 28, Spartan will be solely dedicated to the Open category Beast, along with Ultra and Kids events. There are no qualification requirements for the Open category. This is the first of its kind celebration for Open racers in Spartan history.
As an Open racer, you’ll also have access to a Saturday night party with live music, food, entertainment, a celebrity race and more. Then on Sunday, get a front-row seat to watch the world’s best athletes compete for the biggest prize purse in obstacle course racing.
The Spartan World Championship venue at North Lake Tahoe is no stranger to first-class events. This rugged course was also the home of the 1960 Winter Olympic Games. Now, this stunning venue will become a Spartan battleground.
Racers will start among the chateaus of The Village at Squaw Valley. But then, the ascent begins. At over 4,000 total feet of elevation gain, be prepared for steep climbs and thin mountain air. Conquer obstacles at the peak of a mountain, then get ready for the rugged descent.
Once you’ve finished your event, explore Lake Tahoe’s 72-mile shoreline, soothe yourself at the nearby Grover Hot Springs or grab some grub at the Village at Squaw Valley.

This year, top elite athletes from around the world will descend on five continent-wide Championships to compete prior to the World Championship.
These Championships are fully gated for athletes who qualified to race. Each Championship event also features unique collectible medals and prize money.
The top athletes of these Championships will earn a coveted spot at the World Championship. Championships also provide an alternative route to the World Championship for athletes who may not have qualified via National or Regional series.
Anyone can enter these events. The top 10 male and female Elite and Age Group finishers unlock entry into their nearest championship. The final leaderboard for each series determines who earns spots at the 2019 World Championship powered by Rakuten via a “roll-down week,” starting with 1st place. Each series will be allocated a number of spots at the World Championship.
To qualify for one of the 5 gated championships, you must be a top 10 Elite or Age Group Finisher (male or female) at any regular season race. The same applies for each National / Regional Series event. A roll-down mechanism for Elite category athletes exists globally.
Qualify for the 2019 World Championship powered by Rakuten at any of these events:
Elite spots are scarce, with just 600 total Elite spots available (300 men / 300 women). There are only 2,000 spots for Age Groupers (200 per age group, 100 male / 100 female). Elite and Age Group racers will have the course to themselves for an entire day at the World Championship, Powered by Rakuten.
Qualification for the 2019 World Championship powered by Rakuten now occurs during roll-down week.
