The Dates, The Details, & Why It Will Be More Epic Than Ever
Spartan has announced the return of its Canada National Series for the 2021 race season. The two-event OCR series will feature some of the sport’s best female and male athletes at some of the most epic outdoor venues in the country. Racers have been putting in the work at home and it’s no secret that they are ready to get back out on the course.
"I'm looking forward to being at my peak performance, so I can measure my capacity against the best," said Spartan Canada Pro Team member Samuel Hébert. "But I'm also looking forward to seeing so many of my friends and family from the OCR community that I haven't been able to see in so long."
This event is an opportunity for Canadian racers to not only compete on their home turf, but also defend it.
“I'm thrilled about the recognition and competitiveness that the Canada National Series will bring to Spartan racing in Canada,” said Canadian and two-time Spartan World Champion Lindsay Webster. “For years, the US National Series races have been the primary allure to elites because of the extremely high level of competition and caliber of race that Spartan puts together for us athletes. Now that Spartan has brought this to the table in Canada, it's exciting to hear about athletes’ plans to travel across the border to partake.”

SERIES DETAILS

Spartan Canada National Series winners are decided by cumulative event points, with both races counting towards the final leaderboard. Prize money will be awarded to the top 10 male and female elite finishers at each of the two series events, and a final prize purse of over $30,000 will be awarded to the top 10 male and female athletes on the final leaderboard of the series. For full details check out our FAQ.

In addition to the qualified elite field, competitive athletes will enter 10 women’s and men’s Age Group categories: 14-17, 18-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, and 60+. Each Spartan Canada National Series race weekend also features Open heat events for athletes of all skill levels.

“Now the undisputed global leader in OCR, what has allowed Spartan to rise above the many ‘mud runs’ and other obstacle course events is our commitment to competition,” said Spartan Canada Race Director Johnny Waite. “For some, this may mean competing against yourself — to improve on your time or your finishing place in Open waves. But for the Spartan Elite and Age Group athletes who are committed to elevating their performance, the Canada National Series is their opportunity to prove that they’re the best in this sport — and for us to recognize them for this achievement.”

Following the series, athletes from the U.S, Canada, and Mexico will compete in the Spartan North American Championship, with all roads leading to the 2021 Spartan World Championship in Abu Dhabi. The World Championship — the first to be held outside of the United States — will take place Dec. 3-4.

With safety being Spartan’s No. 1 priority, the brand will implement modified operating procedures to maximize the safety of racers, spectators, and all event personnel. Spartan will continue to follow PHAC safety guidelines and work closely with local officials and safety advisors, which could result in alterations to events on a case-by-case basis.
